Claim Issue

Hi all,

I just wanted a bit of advice regarding an issue I have. Over a year ago now, 23/07/15, there was a burst pipe in my apartment and considerable water damage suffered. The damage was so bad that I had to move out of the property for a month to allow for drying equipment to be placed in the property because the floors were saturated, to allow new flooring to be laid.

During this time I was a bit of a gypsy, staying with various friends and family, keeping in constant contact with the letting agents about developments at the apartment. I continued to pay rent on the property, but they agreed that they would reimburse a months rent, and the drying equipment calculated the amount of energy used so that the additional energy costs could be claimed for.

I have chased them for over a year for the money back, during which time the ownership has changed as the building was sold on, however they continue to represent the new landlord. Yesterday they contacted me to say that the insurance had refused to pay out, that the old landlord was accountable and that he is no longer responding to communications from them, so I won't be getting any money back. Obviously I am annoyed over the way this has been dealt with, but I am wondering how I can proceed to get money back that I feel I am owed.

I looked at taking this to small claims court, but was unable sure if this should be aimed at the agents involved or the previous owner. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
