Mid range small laptop

Hi,
I am looking for views on the best mid range laptop to buy. Thinking of spending £400 - will that get me something decent for light use?
Requirements:
Light use - web, iTunes, viewing films, word (no extensive typing)
Size - handy to take on holiday, so ideally <=12" screen, would consider 13"
Need a HDMI port
(Am partial to a nice sleek looking laptop but really it's more important it's not a hunk of junk)
Last laptop was a disaster, it was an entry level HP, the battery died and touchscreen started playing up within the year. Windows 8 may have also contributed to my view that it's useless,it's been better with Windows 10. Similarly I'm wary of tablet hybrids as husband had a 1st generation Surface for work which was great - but died within a year.
So this time want to avoid the bottom level laptops, and been looking around but finding the latest offerings of hybrid tablets etc are confusing as don't need to pay for that flexibility - although its best suits our needs that's fine,
Want a Windows machine.
Any views?
Thank you in advance for any advice or recommendations....

The Dell outlet is worth a look as they sell customer returns there, usually the machines are in brand new, unused condition but you don't get a choice of spec. I've bought a good few PC's from there as you can usually get a good price with a bit of a patience particularly for a scratch and dent machine which despite the name, it's usually not anything particularly noticeable.
The Latitude machines in the business section are less sleek but many of them come with longer three year warranties and they're usually more serviceable.

How about one of the Medion Akoya laptops?
I've got a 1317T, for which I paid just over £200 at Asda a couple of years ago, and I can't fault it.
It even came with a full version of MS Office 2013. :cool:0 -
Do you need storage?
if not, may be these

If you don't have luck with laptop quality, you could try john lewis, at least they give you 2 year.
