Problem connecting to internet following Windows 10 download

My laptop was connecting to the internet without problem until I upgraded to Windows 10 last week. Now if my HP Envy 5540 wifi printer is switched on I get a message on start up that "There is no Internet Connection". If it is turned off I can get connected without a problem.

After the message saying No Internet Connection I can click on
DETAILS then
DIAGNOSE ERRORS and a message says
DIAGNOSING FAULTS
I then get a message
RESETTING WIRELESS NETWORK ADAPTER and then
FIXED PROBLEM WITH WIRELESS ADAPTER OR ACCESS POINT
After this everything works perfectly normally.

I suspect the printer is interfering somehow. I went on to HP and downloaded the latest updates for my printer ENVY 5540 but this hasn't made any difference.

Any advice on how to persuade my laptop to connect automatically as it used to do would be appreciated. Thank you.

Perhaps your PC and printer are being given the same IP address by your router for some odd reason?

You may well be right. I am no computer expert so perhaps someone could tell me how to check and correct it, please?

Just guessing a bit as I have never had to set it up (at least in the recent past), but get into your PC's networking setup from the Control Panel. Then switch off DHCP (Dynamic Host something or other) which allows your router to dynamically allocate the network address to everything on the network, and then allocate a fixed network address for the PC, but different to that of the printer, so that it permanently has a different address.

Otherwise, I think you need to find out how to get into your router management s/w and do the same by that route.

The DHCP server that assigns IP addresses is on the router, not the PC. (I highly doubt the OP is using the PC as a DHCP server). But the basic thrust of your suggestion is OK ... check on the router what IP addresses are assigned to various devices, and change any that have conflicts.

On your PC, if you open a CMD window and type in ipconfig /all (then Enter) you should get lots of info, one of which will be the IP address of the network adapter you are using to connect to your network. (LAN or WiFi). Similarly the printer control panel (if it has one) should let you determine the IP address it is using.

Thanks for correcting me,;I posted last night from another PC whilst lying on the couch and could not remember the detail (and, as I said, it has been a long time since I had to use static IP addresses on my LAN!)

In my own case, opening the Router (ASUS RT-N66) management interface gives me a clear picture of the network map and what devices are using wired or wireless services and their IP addresses. From there I can make any changes that I need - not that I have had to as the address list is very stable month to month.

OTOH, I did have a problem with a new mobile phone (Moto G 3rd Gen) which appeared to be taking multiple network addresses, one of which was already taken by one of the PCs and thus causing that PC not to connect - exchanging the phone for an identical one solved the problem, so maybe the OP has a similar problem with one of his devices?
