Just want everyone to be aware of what I consider to be 'sharp practice' by this company.
When searching for a holiday I filtered results to show All-Inclusive only. I booked up at a price, which was similar to other websites, but when I received my itinerary it did not state which board basis was included.
When I queried this I was informed that I am required to pay 40€ per day for AI at the hotel. Even more infuriating is that it takes 5/6 day for Expedia to reply to any email I send.
Every other holiday I have ever booked sets the price on booking on whatever basis you have searched for. This is a deliberate misrepresentation in my opinion.
Be careful out there.

Before you criticise someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes.
That way, when you criticise them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

When searching for a holiday I filtered results to show All-Inclusive only.
was this flight+hotel or hotel only?
for hotel only I get only all inclusive showing up so this may be an IT error
for flight+hotel the filter is "all inclusive options available" and then you select your room and board type0 -
I agree with Caz. Hotel only you can filter by All Inclusive. Flight and Hotel it's only All Inclusive Options available, so if you searched a flight and hotel maybe you misunderstood?0

I think the problem occurs when hotels offer multiple board basis.
I have found the same issue on ba.com when looking at BA Holidays.
It seems if a hotel offers multiple board plans the search will pick up the board requested (AI) but will then list all of the different meal plan options against each room category (RO/BB/HB). It is there but you have to pay attention to pick up on this and if you are not expecting to see other meal plans returned as an option (why would you if you are searching for AI) then it is easy to miss.
Perhaps check again by doing another search for the same hotel/dates to see what return is given. Whilst you may have filtered for AI it could be that all options were returned or the filter needs resetting again after the first search results come back.0 -
Thanks for replies.
I was looking for a Hotel only and filtered for All-Inclusive. I then chose one of the resulting hotels and WAS NOT offered any other board options. I paid and received an email with the itinerary.
It was only a few days later I was reading through my emails and realised that the board basis was not mentioned on the itinerary. I sent them a email just to get confirmation of AI (to show in the hotel in case of any misunderstanding) that's when the bombshell landed that in order to get AI we would need to pay the hotel an extra 240€.
Frustratingly they only send replies once a week:(Before you criticise someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes.

what was the location/hotel? this does sound like an IT issue as with Hotel only the all inclusive filter should work, you should be able to follow a complaints process if this is found to be the case0

Thanks for replying.
The Hotel is Caleta Gardens in Fuerteventura. I'm trying get a resolution but it takes them a week to reply to any query.
Never again:mad:Before you criticise someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes.

I think this is an Expedia error
I have performed the following search (I don't know your dates)
- search hotel Fuertaventura (3rd-10th October)
- select 2 filters - Caleta de Fuste (under area) and All inclusive
Caleta Gardens come up and when choose you are presented with a list of room types and prices all of which are all inclusive
Each room type has 2 different prices
both offering exactly the same (free cancellation, book now pay later, all inclusive, no booking/cc fees) however the prices are widely different
eg studio is £293 or £709 for what is meant to be the same
I suspect the £293 is room only and the £709 is the all inclusive but Expedia have put the wrong description against the £293 and as such it appeared in the all inclusive search
I expect the T&Cs cover for website errors so it is unlikely that you will get AI for room only rate but I would follow up the complaint and should receive a full refund if that is what you choose
(if you can repeat with your dates and see the same...eg clearly showing all inclusive then I would suggest to Expedia they do the same and fix the issue)0 -
Thank you so much for taking the effort, it helps me feel a little more 'justified'.
I'd love to finish the matter, I have emailed them every day for over a week (to tell them how urgently I need it resolved) but get absolutely no reply.
I would never use them again (and would advise others not to) not only because of their shoddy practices and lack of communication but also PRICE.
The cost of, what I presume is, 'room only' is comparable to what Sunshine.co.uk and TravelRepublic are offering AI for in the same hotel! Before you criticise someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes.
