Paying off a credit card bill using overdraft

So I've been blissfully living in the land of those unaware of what a credit rating is. Having recently spoken to my bank, it's come to my attention that my score is likely to be super bad. I've been told that getting a student credit card and paying it off regularly can improve that.
However, given the current circumstances, it's likely that any credit card bills I'd rack up would have to be paid using money from my student overdraft. Would doing that negate any positive effect a credit card would have made in the first place?
Thanks!

As long as you aren't spending any *more* money it doesn't matter how they're paid.
Spend what you would spend on a debit card on the credit card instead... then pay the credit card in full (with your student overdraft (presumably 0%) if you have to).
That will help your credit file as you are showing you are managing the card, and the overdraft, in line with the agreements.
Ignore the scores as they mean nothing - it's what's on your credit file that counts. In 6 months or so, you'll look a lot more attractive to lenders assuming your overall debt level stays about the same.
If you debt now is £1,000, and in 6 months time it's £750 overdraft and £250 sat on the card, that's the same - but you've got the added bonus of an extra agreement being managed well.0
