Refused car insurance

My stepson and his girlfriend both passed their driving tests last week. He has insured their car as the main driver but when she tried to be added as a named driver they refused to insure her because of her occupation. She is a customer service rep for a well known bingo site and she works from home. Anyone know why they would do this or has anyone else had a similar problem? Thanks

Many insurers don't "like" occupations associated with gambling
See if a local broker (not Swinton) can help find an insurer prepared to cover her0 -
I believe historically a lot of insurers were reluctant to insure people who worked in gambling for a couple of reasons. First the extra hazards associated with things like potentially carrying around large sums of cash or having your car vandalised by disgruntled customers. And secondly what might be called "moral hazard" - the presumption that you spend your time hanging round with people with names like No-Nose Charlie and that generally you're a bit of a wrong 'un.
Obviously neither of those things apply to someone who works in customer service for a website, and today's gambling industry is very different to how it was in the past, but insurer's policies don't always change as quickly as the outside world, and reassessing their attitude to what's still a pretty small group of potential customers is probably not high on the list of priorities for a large mainstream insurer. So it's often left to the smaller, specialist companies to insure the type of customers that the big household names aren't so keen on.0
