Night out in Liverpool

I am planning a short break to Liverpool. Hotel prices are very expensive at the weekends.
I was thinking perhaps of staying on a Sunday and Monday night but I am not sure if there would be much night life in the city centre on those nights. I usually go to Matthew Street which has some nice bars and plenty of life but I am not sure if there would be many people about on Sunday and Monday night and whether there would be music in the bars.
Are there any mid-week nights which are busy? Perhaps every night is busy in and around Matthew Street?
Any help appreciated.

There's more to Liverpool nights out than Matthew Street... the area around Wood St and Slater St has loads of good places. I always liked Camel Club
Are you going before or after September? I'd wait for the students to get back before it gets lively mid-week.
I've stayed in a few different hotels there if you need any hints!
Avoid the Adelphi, however cheap it is
Hard Days night hotel - nice interior, a bit loud due to being next to Matthew street
Crowne Plaze - nice, but not well located
Hilton - nice, great location for shopping. Ace breakfast.
62 Castle Street - Massive rooms, great toiletries.. ok location0 -
Thanks for that.
I was planning to go towards the end of the month. Looking really for a few pubs with live music and a bit of atmosphere.Val0 -
Liverpool is best and liveliest at the weekends like most towns. theres always something on . live music . again best at weekends . sunday afternoon is like Friday nights at my age . consider staying out of town .its easy to commute in and out . I'm Wirral side and friends from out of town stay at the Travelodge in New Brighton or similar . 20 mins train into James st and £15 taxi back . might make weekends affordable . hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0

You could look at the Happy Monday's Ibis deal where you can get hotel rooms in cities outside of London at wekends for £25 a night. You can only book it on the Monday/Tuesday for the following weekend and it can be limited.

These university rooms seem very central (tho I don't know Liverpool).
£50/night, no breakfast. Still some availability for Fri-Mon in August, including the Bank Hol weekend.

Ive stayed here before. Apart from the fact it's a bit weird as you're underground the rooms were actually very nice and a decent size. It's a good location as well
