Car Insurance - drive other car in EU (Ireland)

Hi,

I'm 24 years old, and visit family in Republic of Ireland every month or two for a couple of days.

Does anyone know of any car insurance companies that allow you to drive OTHER vehicles in Republic of Ireland once you are 25+ years old?

Most companies I'm finding only allow you to drive your own vehicle abroad, rather than another person (family member)?

Are you from Northern Ireland or GB?


I believe a few a few of the NI companies might allow it - phone them and check - although you will only be covered to drive it third party.


The easier way is probably for the owner of the car to insure you.

Direct Line extend their DoC cover to include the Republic of Ireland (page 8). As above, remember that this is third party only cover, so if you drive into a tree be prepared for a slightly awkward conversation with your relative about who pays for the repairs.
