Some services, such as Amazon prime allow you to download movies to compatible devices to watch later, I think this only applies to movies released to Amazon Prime rather than the latest films available to stream at an extra cost. I'm sure Netflix has something similar.
  • Netflix won't let you download films like Amazon Video will (It's a service they are still considering).

First: What sort of tablet is it? If it's an Android, it should be a case of ripping/re-coding the DVD, then copying it over by plugging a USB cable in.

Some DVDs have a leaflet inside offering off-line downloads.

You could also buy/rent videos from Google's play store

Cling film is the most effective way of getting a film on a tablet :)
Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.
  • http://lifehacker.com/5498519/makemkv-rips-dvds-and-blu-rays-with-just-two-clicks will rip the dvd so you can save it to the tablet.

The trial version is time limited but you can extend that for DVDs rather than bluray
  • What flavour of tablet is it ? You can certainly copy video files to an android tablet.

DVDs have a couple of complications: they tend to be encrypted, and the video and sound are split into different files. There is free software around to decrypt and then to combine everything into a single mp4 stream which is a bit more convenient. Search for DVD ripping or DVD conversion or some such. (I'm assuming you have a pc or laptop or something that can do the work...)

I don't know anything about netflix. It would surprise me if they had no DRM protection.
  • One 'free' way to get films is:

    1. Earn Google play store credit by filling out surveys
    2. Rent films using the free credit

I've had about £8 in credit for free. It's not quick, but it does accumulate eventually.

    1. Download firefox and install the "download flash and video" add-on.
    2. Go to your favourite video streaming website and start your required viseo playing in the browser
    3. Click the "video" icon in the firefox toolbar.
    4. Choose the location to save the video to . (USB stick ?)
    5. Plug the USB stick into your tablet.
    6. Enjoy the film

Although it's quite likely that the tablet won't have a full size USB port, so there may have to be an extra step to buy a micro to full size USB lead.
