Laptops direct extended warranty issues

Options
Good evening all, I am not sure if this is the right place to post this or not.
I purchased an extended warranty with the above company and now need to claim as the laptop cannot be repaired.

The company cannot provide a replacement model as it is now discontinued, they have said that to replace it with the same spec will cost more and that I will have to pay the difference.
I have argued that it is under warranty and as such should be replaced for the same spec but the company has said that they will only replace upto the value of the original purchase price which will buy an inferior model.
They never sent me a copy of the warranty policy when we purchased the laptop despite their website stating that the policy would be emailed out within 30 days of purchase.
Has anyone got any idea of if I can stand my ground on this one in regards to getting a replacement model of the same spec.
Thanks
Andrew

A search came across this laptop extended warranty policy on Laptops Direct's website:

    http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/pdf/UCover-Laptop-Extended-Warranty-Ageas-25.02.11.pdf

Obviously, the terms of your policy may be different.

    This policy states:

"Claim Limit- Your policy provides unlimited claims up to the original purchase price of the Equipment in aggregate."

    and:

"6) In the event that the parts for the Equipment are no longer available, or the Equipment is beyond economical repair, We will base Our settlement on the replacement cost of the same or similar model at the time of the breakdown."

Laptops Direct's response to your claim seems to be consistent with the claim limit of this policy.

However, as I mentioned earlier, the terms of your policy may differ.

^^^That seems to sum it up perfectly but if you want more discussion and further confirmation (or maybe some ideas what to do) post on the Consumer Rights section.

The purchase price from however long ago will only allow for an inferior model now? Really? What happened to the usual modus of continuous improvement in specs versus price?

How long ago did you purchase the laptop?
    What price did you pay?
    What laptop did you buy?
Have you made any previous warranty claims?

The answers to the above will probably help us determine whether they are trying to pull a fast one.
