HSBC 'Advance' debit card problems

I just wanted to share this in case anyone else comes across this problem.
On the weekend my HSBC debit card was declined at a restaurant - very embarrassing!!!
On a previous visit to the same restaurant they had been having problems with their card payments so I put it down to the that and checked my account when I got to home to be on the safe side.
Today my card was declined at a cash machine.
After spending over an hour this evening trying to speak to someone from HSBC, I finally got through.
Apparently my account was upgraded in March, as were many other people's accounts.
As part of the roll out of Advance accounts, they gave people new debit cards which were sent out in April.
In the words of the man on the other end of the phone "it all kicked off on Saturday" as HSBC deactivated any old debit cards from these accounts. I didn't receive a new card and it seems that some other people may not have either. However, I am now without a debit card for my HSBC account until a new one arrives.
If anyone else finds themselves in the same situation, get in touch with HSBC. They have offered to credit £50 into my account but I think it might be switching time.

When I was upgraded about a year ago the new card arrived a few days later as I had been told it would. Maybe yours got lost in the post?0
