Multiple Contract, Redundancy from 1 contract - rights

My husband has been working over 20 years in the public sector. A number of years ago, he started working 2 1/2 days in a senior position, and retained his existing job for 1 1/2 days (4 days total) .... apparently this means he has 2 separate contracts - though he receives only 1 payslip.
He has now been informed that he is to be made redundant from his 2 1/2 day a week role, and has been told that if he continues with employment with the authority, that he is only due redundancy for the time period he was in this role (the senior role). If he completely left the authority, it would be based on his continuous years of service (i.e. over 20 years).
Does anyone know if this is correct?

Yes it is. If he had gone from one job, moved on and into another one, it would be based on his whole continual service. But as he has two jobs with the authority, the one that he retained "holds" the continuous service, and the second contract is only counted from the day it started.0
