Direct debit for home insurance no notification of auto renewal

I have been going through my online banking and checking my direct debits when I spotted a monthly direct debit from AXA UK, I had always stupidly assumed this charge was for my building insurance, (I own a leasehold property, not realising insurance is included in the service charge.)
I contacted my council as I thought it was a bit steep who had no idea what it was, I then called AXA with the reference as I could not recall ever taking insurance with them, to be informed that this was contents insurance from Marks & Spencer (acting as a broker) that had started in Feb 2012 and wouldn't end until 2017! I have absolutely no recollection of taking out this insurance and have received no correspondence by email or post regarding a policy and definitely not any renewal. I live at the same address and use the same email account for any insurance.
I know it was foolish of me not to check my direct debits properly but surely I should have received some notification regarding any insurance and renewal? Does anyone know if its worth me making a complaint?:( If so, which company should I make the complaint to? Thanks

Did you ask them what the address of the contents policy covered or in who's name it is in?0

This is easily resolved. You dont need to go to complaint.
You contact AXA and provide them copies of your alternative contents insurance and say that you have duplicate insurance. They will correspond with your alternative contents insurance provider to verify you had it for the whole period and then between them, they will arrange a refund.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
