I don't think my heart could take a rollercoaster like that0

Had about £600 of loss from AIM last year.
In fact, I wish I had played AIM more in 2015/16, because I could have used any losses to offset a big gain I paid 28% CGT on. If I gambled and won, I could have delayed selling until 2016/17, and pay 10% CGT on the gain, or 20% if I get pushed into higher rate tax.0

You use words " Played " and " Gambled " when it comes to apt, do you see it as more of a gamble than an investment?0

Bought an AIM stock in December 2014, its now a FTSE 250 constituent and showing 73% up.
This one's a keeper. "If you aren’t willing to own a stock for ten years, don’t even think about owning it for ten minutes” Warren Buffett "If you aren’t willing to own a stock for ten years, don’t even think about owning it for ten minutes” Warren Buffett
 Save £12k in 2025 - #024 £1,450 / £15,000 (9%)0

 Yup, its simple really.
 1. Look at all the AIM All-Share Constituents: http://www.londonstockexchange.com/exchange/prices-and-markets/stocks/indices/summary/summary-indices-constituents.html?index=AXX
 2. Read the company reports/announcements of the stocks you're interested in, directly from the companies investor relations webpage."If you aren’t willing to own a stock for ten years, don’t even think about owning it for ten minutes” Warren Buffett

We are talking AIM. It's the Wild Wild West there.
Even on the regular stock market, gambling is not a bad description.
I think you'll notice people try to scare newbies with words like high risk.
It's healthy to risk a small percentage on high risk stuff.0

£50k across 10 blue-chip shares, while still insufficient diversification for the vast majority of people and a highly volatile portfolio, should have every chance of making money in the long run. The nature of the AIM market is that you could quite easily put £50k into 10 different shares and all of them could tank - or at the very least, not get anything like the returns required to offset your losses on the duffers.stringer_bell wrote:are there any decent sites to research aim shares?
No. You can read as many company accounts and analyst guff as you want and you will still not have a superior insight into whether a share is going to rocket in value compared to the aggregate of all other investors, as conveyed by the current market price. All "research" is likely to give you is misplaced confidence.
The accounts of the companies EdGasket was talking about would have looked perfectly fine and dandy to any amateur right up until the bottom fell out.0
