Has it ever worked properly? If yes, the inadequate gas supply solution can only be true if something has happened to the supply (meter or pipework), faulty meter, crimped pipe etc. If no, then it is easily checked, find gas pressure and volume requirements from installation manual or manufacturers and have your engineer test for both.

I think we have been misled into thinking it was a water pressure problem.

Despite attempting two fixes, the engineer reckons it's best to go directly to the manufacturer now and pay for a one-off repair.

Unfortunately, he, like the engineers before him, hasn't been able to diagnose the exact problem. He did notice a lack of correlation between the figures on the gas meter and the apparent usage of the boiler. So I'm reasonably confident the gas is the source of the problem.

Paying for an additional repair from the manufacturer seems questionable because nobody has been able to tell me exactly what's wrong. I could well be throwing good money after bad.

A new boiler is the best option, methinks.

Thanks for your input guys. Pity it remains unresolved.

Has it ever worked? Buying a new boiler sounds a bit like sledgehammer and nut. What about a few weeks down the line when your new boiler is installed and the installation engineer says, oh look, I've found a problem with this gas feed pipe or your meter's cream crackered.

It's been dysfunctional - on and off - for more than six months. In May and June it was fine, but for some inexplicable reason it has started to exhibit the same problems as earlier in the year.

But, now you mention it, I'll see if I can get someone to thoroughly investigate the gas feed pipe (the most recent engineer didn't give a definitive answer either way).

    Cheers.
