Faulty vacuum cleaner
Comments

Well one way of doing that is working out how much it actually cost you.
Some things to consider might be -
Visit to hospital:
- cost to get there and back,
- costs of travel of essential visitors to the hospital,
- cost of any private medical treatment that wasn't available on the NHS.
Cost of subsequent wound dressings.
Loss of earnings during recovery.
Fire??
But you told us it tripped the electrics - presumably almost instantly.
This is becoming a bit difficult to believe.
Believe what you will, you don't post under the username bigjl as well do you?0 -

Well given your username thats quite surprising.
We've got a faulty appliance that has caused some damage and are determining how best to resolve this. If you can add anything useful then by all means respond, if not then probably better to keep quiet.0 -
but people post some odd comments on here, not a habitual visitor and won't be returning.
Send the manufacturers an LBA
No point posting about it here if you don't like the responses ...0 -
Bigadaj, your original post mentions 'they', 'them' and 'their' multiple times but you do not tell us who 'they' are.
Are 'they' the manufacturer or the seller?
And no, I don't post as 'big' anything. I have no need to.0 -

No, not supporting the claim, simply questioning the veracity of the information I've posted. Logically any suitable responses would be caveated by a simple sentence stating that they are based on the information as described.
Boards here vary and it's interesting that this one seems quite critical. Not a problem for me but I'd have expected it to be a bit fluffier like the benefit ones.0 -

Fluffier? Hmm, interesting choice of words.
You've got the usual mix of useful suggestions and responses you didn't like. Take what you wish from them and accept that this is a public forum with a range of people with a range of personalities , experience and knowledge answering.
Its a complete waste of energy expecting anything else.0 -

Will do, as you can see I'm familiar with these forums.
If people want to respond they are entitled to do so, but similarly if these responses are irrelevant, unhelpful or critical then I'll feel free to point that out.
I'll take those constructive comments on board and move on, again thanks to those who have tried to help.0 -
Right, bit of an update which might be useful for others.
Sent them a letter detailing the issues and suggested settlement, which consisted of a replacement carpet in the room affected and a similar amount for the burn to the arm for distress and injury, £200 for the carpet, so looking for around £400-500.
Bit of a delay in their response presumably due to staff holidays, but they eventually offered £1k in full and final settlement. Accepted after a brief discussion and money was paid into account yesterday.
We've returned the faulty vacuum but haven't signed a letter confirming that the payment is in full and final settlement, agreement mainly by phone but with a couple of emails confirming the general agreement. I think I'd want a bit more if I were them but they've been pretty good apart from that one letter, customer services have been very reasonable but allowed the lawyers to issue that one letter which annoyed me slightly.0
