Windows 10 Upgrade - possible problem

Sorry for another W10 thread.
I upgraded from W8.1 to W10 a week ago Sunday (24/07/16).
I didn't do a clean installation using media creation tool as I wasn't sure about what I was doing, sorry. Just downloaded. I backed everything up first to an external Hard Drive using Macrium Reflect. I also created a Recovery Disk using Macrium (I hope) - the option was there so I put a disc in and followed the steps. Created a Restore Point.
Everything seems OK, lost Classic Shell but I knew that would happen and I haven't reinstalled it yet, thought I would see how I got on. Also "HP Documentation removed" appeared in the Notifications - I checked for updates and there aren't any. I haven't done much other than check emails and browsing usually reading MSE!
However, I've noticed the battery only seems to be lasting half as long as it used to on W8.1. Was about 4 hours, now down to 2 hours. And it's noisier most of the time than it was. Seems to come from the left hand side - is that the Hard Drive? It's not getting hot or anything and I cleared the dust/fluff from the vents (right word?) last week.
I've checked Task Manager and HP Support Solutions Framework is using between 15-35%, in the 30's at the moment and this is the only Tab I've got open. Could this be the cause? I don't how much it used on W8.1 because I never needed to look.
It's an HP Pavilion 17 Notebook e0425a, Intel core i5, 4 GB Ram,
1 TB.
Any advice please (in very simple terms)?
Thanks - Dolly

it appears you are on the right track, find which service is initialising the hp support sol framework and disable it* see if your battery lasts longer..
(* hit windows key and type "msconfig" then press enter you will see the service tab on the window that opens, choose the option to hide ms services and the hp ones will be left in the list, personally I tend to disable these anyway.)0 -
A new Windows 10 installation seems to do a lot of work behind the scenes in the first few days. It builds indexes, downloads and installs updates, potentially compresses and tidies those updates, and if you have a clean install the anti-virus will want to scan the disk as well.
Leave it on for a good few hours with the power plugged in to let it do its stuff, before you start looking at performance.
Incidentally I find Task Manager (show More details and look at Startup) a more friendly way to look at software that loads at startup, albeit perhaps not as comprehensive as MSConfig it's a better place to start IMO.0 -
Thanks both.
I've done what maddogb suggested and then restarted the laptop.
It's definitely stopped HP Support Solutions Framework.
I then did exactly what I normally do after starting/restarting. Logged in, clicked on Google Chrome, clicked on MSE, Forum, Techie Forum and then I opened Task Manager and the third column "Disk" was highlighted red and 100%! This has gone down to 1-2% now.
Possibly always goes to 100% but I don't normally look at it that soon.
Jivesinger - I've been using the laptop for a week since the upgrade so I would have thought all the indexing, upgrading would have been done by now. I switch it on in the morning and do what I want, plug power cable in when alerted, leave it on when I'm doing something else, unplug power cable when battery is 100% again and close it down in the evening. Oh, by the way, I don't get a warning sound and the blue bar across the screen telling you to plug in anymore. Screen just goes dimmer and a little warning symbol on the battery icon now.
I was reading another thread the other day (oddjob's?) and Startup was mentioned so I had a look at mine and it's:
Avast - High impact
Epson Status Monitor 3 - None impact, Status disabled
HP Message Service (2) - Low impact
itunes Helper - Medium impact
Microsoft One Drive - High impact
Power2Go Desktop Burning... None impact, Status disabled
Power DVD RC Service - None impact,Status disabled
Realtek HD Audio Manager - Low Impact
I haven't disabled those things, I don't mess with things when I don't know what I'm doing
Just looked in Details and there's loads, too many to list, and I don't have a clue. I recognise the easy things but that's about it.
The only things I've installed (on W8.1) are Avast, Google Chrome, Epson Printer/Scanner, Adblock+, Libre Office, Malware Bytes Anti Malware and Macrium Reflect.
iTunes was only installed as husband had a gifted iphone unlocked (properly, not through a potentially dodgy site) and he had to create an account to do it.
Thank you both for your help. Laptop has certainly gone back to it's previous quiet state. I'll see how long the battery lasts now.

It's been an hour since I unplugged power cable & 78% battery left so it seems back to normal - Thank you.
I haven't been using it all the time during that hour so it had gone to sleep some of the time but it was still draining the battery before even when asleep.0
