will closing credit card acoounts affect rating

I recently decided i had too many credit cards:

Barclaycard

BoS
Halifax

BMI
Virgin

I have just closed the BoS and Barclaycard ones as the rates were pants. The only one with money owed is virgin at £600. I want to keep BMI for the miles.

I need a 0% deal so was thinking about royal BoS for 13 months

i earn over 30k but have defaulted probably once by accident in the past year.

I have also recently switched current accounts

Is closing the cards account going to have affected my rating? Should I wait to apply for the new card?

Closing the cards will reduce the amount of credit available to you which will certainly not harm your rating.
