O/S Daily Thread for Monday 1st August

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning all
Pinch punch and all that.
Today I have to get all the furniture downstairs ready for the charity collection and I need to feed the cats and water the garden (my paid job this holiday).
I shall spend another couple of hours on the decorating, that should keep me busy.
Have a good day everyone.

Good morning everyone :hello:
Up with the larks (and grumpy husband) this morning as I couldn't sleep due to the therapy session I'm going to today. Nervous is not the word! My CMHT lady is picking me up at 9.15 so I have to stay awake now.
Our electric is being cut off between 10 and 3 today so they can do some work on the estate. The girls are going shopping for clothes, books and art supplies whilst the electric is off as they can't cope without the internet :rotfl::rotfl:.
My friend turned up yesterday and was pretty bad. The girls did their best to stay out of the way but she cornered them in the kitchen and told them they were going to sing a song she'd written for my eldest DD and her partner at their wedding. I have nipped that in the bud but now I'm worrying that she is going to do something else at the wedding. She is bringing her eldest son who I'm sure will do his best to keep her in check.
I have taken some chicken out for tea and will make a stirfry providing the electric is on by then. I have charged up my phone and kindle so I am set for a peaceful afternoon anyway.
Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Morning everyone
HH - thanks for starting us off, aren't you supposed to be on holiday? You'll be more tired when you go back to work than before the hols! Hope you get chance for some r&r at some point!
Hugs to those that want/need them x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now light, clear blue sky and sunshine at the moment, but we're forecast rain every day until Wednesday this week - we'll see.
DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit.
Lunch yesterday was roast pork, roasties, mash, cauli/broc cheese, carrots, HG green beans, peas, yorkshires and gravy - we do have some LO's- so will need to incorporate those into the menu too. Tonight's dinner is chicken en croute or hunter's chicken, there are 2 portions of each, so will get the menfolk to decide what they want and I'll have whatever is left. That will be served with new potatoes and peas.
DH got the job at the caravan done yesterday so he's happy that's sorted. Next weekend we'll go to the caravan and there's a few things to sort out, check store cupboards, bedding, toiletries etc so we're ready for when we go away for the bank holiday. We visited both sets of parents on Saturday afternoon and DH told me yesterday when we had a quiet moment that my dad had told him that my mum isn't well and they don't know what's wrong with her, she's clearly been unwell for a long time, I spoke to 1 of my siblings several years ago who just said yes she's not well but the symptoms she displays are likely to be linked to her diabetes - mum's was diagnosed with diabetes 10+ years ago, but it's never been controlled properly and she isn't good at eating what she should. DH didn't know whether dad was saying she's not well due to the diabetes or something new, I don't have the easiest of relationships with my parents or siblings, and of course I don't always get included in what's going on, so this may have been going on for a while and no-one has told me. Dad only told DH because he asked if they were coming away to the same place as we are going to for the bank holiday weekend. No doubt when they see fit to tell me anything they'll do so.
Back to work for me today, 1st of the month so it should be reasonably busy - prefer it like that.
Keep safe and well x

Morning everyone.
A bit grey today, I'd hoped to get my floor rugs washed and out on the line but maybe not.
Yesterday flew past with only a clear out of the small barn to show for it. Plumber had taken away the old cylinder but left behind all the lagging so I stuffed it in the car. My first thought was to take it away today until I realised, just in time, that it's our summer Bank Holiday here. Cue a swift and legal whizz to the tip just in time.
Neighbours came to talk cameras and logs and I ended up swapping my year old but unused DSLR for a big pile of seasoned wood. Result!
Today I've got a delivery coming in the afternoon some time so I need to wait in for it. I'll occupy myself by clearing out the clutter in the utility room which is annoying me.
Happy Monday everyone - especially Dumpling. I hope you can relax and 'enjoy' your session. Try to hold onto the good it wil do you. X0 -
Morning folks. Thanks for starting us off HESTER. The sun is shining and it promises to be a nice day. According to the forecast it's the last one for a while.
Yesterday's send off for our nephew went well and we were able to sit outside all afternoon but, by 7 ish, it was feeling pretty chilly, so the party started breaking up then. It was lovely to see all the great nephews and nieces (together with our DGDs) playing so well together, with the older ones looking after the younger ones. Nephew is looking forward to his new teaching post in Korea but, at the same time, feeling a bit apprehensive now his departure date is getting nearer.
We want to make a start on the back garden today. It has got so neglected with everything overgrown. It's not a big garden but it will be an arduous job. One of the fences needs replacing too but we can't get at it until we cut most of the bushes down along that side. So many jobs have been neglected since Mr TA started with his illness but, if we take it steady, we'll get there!
I'll get something quick and easy out for lunch and have something a bit more substantial at teatime when we knock off. No leftovers from Sunday lunch this week with going out for the day.
Have a good day and (((HUGS))) where wanted. DUMPLING I hope all goes well for your new therapy session, I'm sure it will. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning everyone,
Dry, bright and sunny here.
Feel like a wrung out dishcloth this morning, did not sleep well at all, awake every five minutes it seemed but ho hum.
Work which am not looking forward to and of course Mum has her scan, my SIL is taking her as not working at the moment which makes sense but why do I still feel guilty
Have a good day everyone, hugs to Dumpling, take care folks x0 -
Morning everyone,
Thanks for starting us of Hester.
We had a nice time at the in laws yesterday although the only meat I selected turned out to be an undercooked sausage, so after one small bite I left it to the sideEnded up making a toastie when I got home as was still a bit peckish! The present of wine was well received thank goodness.
Today DH has to go and sign on then he's going into London to meet a colleague who is working at the place where his second interview is on Wednesday. DS1 has an extra shift so DH will take him and I will collect. Will also fit in a half hour gym class hopefully as I only went once last week and strangely I miss it when I don't go
Dinner is Mexicana mince which is quick and easy, but I will need to buy fresh salad to go with. Need to wash towels today and do zone one cleaning (kitchen and cloakroom).
Dumpling - good luck today sweetie, hope it goes well xx
Lainey - hope Mum's scan goes okay
Have a great day all

Morning all, cloudy here but not raining.
LaineyT, perhaps it is because you have high expectations of yourself?
Hope it goes well Dumpling.
I'll be working all week, but starting off tired, and as I have a lot on, can't take a break but should be able to in early autumn. I'm certainly not indispensable but there are jobs that should be followed through and it isn't fair to others to take a break at some times.
A fly has got in and is buzzing dementedly but I can't spot it, argh. And I have not tackled the ironing again.
Hope everyone has a good day.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning, ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one. Pinch and a punch for the first of the month.
OH still in hospital, went in yesterday, he seemed a bit down. I know he wants to come home, but I need to be sure that things are under control before he comes. I just could not bear to have to go back to square one, where I was watching him all the time in case he passes out.
Bed stripped laundry in the washer, it should dry, its sunny with a breeze. Monday clean to do also need yo wash the kitchen floor, so that and the laundry should keep me occupied today.0 -
Good morning everyone,
Hope you all had a nice weekend.
I was rushed off my feet with work on Saturday. 8am-10.30pm, so yesterday was a relatively lazy day to make up for it. However there shall be no laziness in the month of August as I'm planning to be productive, healthy and very 'MSE', as we say.
I'm just off the phone to my new employers who came back with an offer of a £1k cut for the first 3 months then it'll rise to what I'm on at the moment with a healthy bonus structure. I agreed. Didn't want to push my luck and miss the opportunity. So I'll need to hand my notice in today to get the ball rolling. Very excited.
Have a nice day everyone0
