What taxes on other people would you support?

I don't think any new taxation needs to be introduced. Just changes to existing rates.
Upping the cost of flights to try to cut down the use of fossil fuels.
Increase the cost of fuel for non-business use to encourage the take up of electric vehicles.
Perhaps some punitive measures against business that operates round the clock but doesn't implement any renewable energy sources.
Amongst others.
Even if climate change isn't taking place these would be better for the health of the citizens in this country.0 -
My answer to the cyclist tax is that I'm quite happy to pay a proportion of "road tax" in line with that of the wear and tear / space I occupy / pollution generated - I mean paying 20% of the rate of a Toyota Prius seems about right ...0

Merge NI and Income tax
That was on UKIP agenda. If May falters on Brexit, then there is a likelyhood of this to happen
Tax is an evil necessity. It is a mechanism to balance wealth. But doing so, it is effectively robbing Peter to pay Paul.
If we have no taxation at all, it wouldn't help anyone because the stamp duty saving will be eaten up by higher asking price by seller, for example.
There are some countries with no income tax but they are actually more expensive!
What I don't like is slab based tax system. Just make it a linear affair e.g. 25% of income is tax and same rule for everyone.Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.0 -
If we pretend motorists VED is a payment to use or fund the roads, which it isn't. Its levied by the government at varying rates to support cleaner cars with the revenues raised added to general taxation income, and because of this cyclists who use the same piece of tarmac should pay VED. Apart from the £0 VED band cyclists would be in, surely pedestrians should pay much more than cyclists to fund pavements and crossing. These vast areas along many highways aren't cheap.
When I'm cycling my £230 VED per year car is not being used. Cycling motorists should get a tax rebate.0 -
We could save the expense of all the TV license prosecutions clogging up the courts by doing what Israel did. They merged it with a "radio tax" which was already paid via fuel tax on cars, as almost all cars have radios. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0

I'd be quite interested in a London tourist tax. Plenty of other places have it [right?]
I think [I just googled] c. 20 million overseas visitors per year, a fairly low tax per visitor would, you'd think, be able to raise a goodly amount of cash without hitting visitor numbersFACT.0 -
A cost to register births. Might be another disincentive to people who have children to claim the benefits, and I don't see why everyone should be paying for the service via Council Tax. Those marrying pay their way through the fees associated with that.
Insurance for cyclists. Totally wrong that the burden of proof is always on the motorist and never the cyclist.
Agree with merging tax and NI. There's no NI after pension age, yet I thought it was designed to fund the NHS, as well as qualifying one for a state pension.
Council Tax needs to go/have a serious reduction. Far too much is charged (obvious when they're hurriedly frittering it in March just so they can 'justify' asking for the same and more in the next year.) They give out far too many allowances to themselves. 25% income tax or something with 5% to the local council would be better, as far too many people are having to pay more than a month's wages/salary in council tax.
The difference between each VED band should be equal, I think. Being disabled, I can only drive an automatic car. An automatic is one band higher than the same manual car, which is fair enough at say £20 extra a year. The difference between Band C and D is punitive, and most small, so not gas guzzling in any sense; automatics seem to be a D. With cuts to disability benefit, it's an extra cost that many disabled people will have to cover themselves.0 -
We should have a 'Taking the Mickey' tax.
This is a punitive tax, levied on anyone who takes an existing tax rule and abuses it way beyond the original intent.
Like the people who abused the film investment incentive, a few years back.
Or, the example covered in Top Gear, where a handful of Ferrari and other sports car vehicles had been registered as taxis to avoid the congestion charge.
In this last example, they should either have a 5000% tax levy to pay, unless they can prove they regularly pick up fares at the black cab rate0 -
I would go for a 'fat tax' people are taxed by the stone and the tax would be doubled (or trebled) if too much flesh is displayed in hot weather.0
