5.15am flight from Gatwick with kids - hotel?

I'd definitely look at the cost of pre-booked minicabs versus driving and parking at the airport.
 I agree.
I think it's highly unlikely that you'll get a decent night's sleep at a hotel whatever time you choose to check in so that's a waste of money IMO. You'd be better off at least trying to sleep in your own bed for a while.
To me, the even bigger bonus is when you get back. You'll all be tired and then there's passport control and waiting for luggage after you've landed. Far better that someone else drives home.
 Have a good holiday:).0

 Check in from 1400.
You can be fed and watered, and tucked up in bed with a Mills and Boon by 2000.
By the time you alarm goes off at 0230 you might not have had 6.5 hours sleep, but you'll have had plenty of rest.
Quick shower, 2 minute walk and you're in Departures not long after 0300 for that 0515 flight.
I have done this several times though not with kids. much prefer to spend the money this way than on a taxi (which could possibly not turn up - happened to me once).0

I have discovered how much less stressful it is to stay at airport hotel the night before for an early morning flight - and I don't have kids -
Thank you to Michele-P for the Travelodge code, I am flying to Milan on the 13/8 fight is at 9am and with this code just got a room for £35 - bargain and stress-free start to the day.0

Great news, glad it helped! I used the code to book the Gatwick Central Travelodge for £28 for a family room. Bargain! I was considering the Premier Inn as it's right over the road from terminal, but this was half the price,0

we use the hotel the night before to make departure day convenient, and to also start the holiday a bit earlier. I can't remember the last time we went from home directly to the airport, even for flights departing at 11 or so (and we live in and fly from London). It is just a much more relaxing way to do it, we find.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0
