Child benefit query

Hi all
I'm overdue my first child and am a bit confused about claiming child benefit due to our circumstances.
Whilst this is my first child, my OH has 2 other children with whom he has shared care with their mother. OH claims CB for one of these children (his ex claims for the other). So when we claim it will be at the 2nd child rate.
But if OH claims the CB for new baby in his name for this reason will I be missing out on things like NI contributions or anything else?
Can I claim in my name but get the 2nd child rate?
We won't be claiming CTC as we earn just slightly over the 2 child threshold.
I will be on SMP until end of March next year and then hopefully going back to work part time.
Thanks in advance.

The form asks if your partner is claiming child benefit for a child and the benefit number of that claim so you can claim for your child abd the claims will be linked.0

Ah fab thanks you. I've not seen the form as OH spoke to CB about something else and mentioned it and they just said to ring up. I shall get the form ready. Thanks again.* Rainbow baby boy born 9th August 2016 *

If you want over £112 per week you get NI credits anyway.0
