Which part time jobs are good for masters students?

Hi,
I'm going to start my masters in September, and I need a part time job alongside it. I'm having trouble finding part time work similar to stuff I've done in the past-- I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions of what sorts of work might be good?

My fellow Masters students did mainly bar and hotel work, but nearly all of them found that the demands of the course were so great that they had to give it up after a few months.0

Interesting. On my Masters course the ones with the highest outcomes and who always turned in work on time were the ones who also had full-time jobs! It was the "full-time students" who struggled to meet a deadline and didn't produce the higher quality work. And the " "s in full-time student is because contact time was two days per week maximum, leaving three days of study time left for them, and still two days to do other stuff. The rest of us didn't have that luxury.0 -

It would have been almost completely impossible to do all of the contact time, assignments, group work, placement and dissertation on my course while holding down a full time job. The closest really was my friend who was a mum to 5 and 7 year olds whose husband worked offshore 3 weeks on / 3 weeks off, who juggled things amazingly well and got a Distinction.0 -
So did I. And also the highest marks ever awarded. Doing ask the same work and holding down a full time job. It's called organisation and commitment. If your want it then your do it.0

I am nearly at the end of my MA and had to work throughout although I did the MA part time over two years. It has been tough though and most weekends have been spent reading and studying. I will be relieved when I am finished. Just make sure you don't take on too many hours.0

Well, I take it you're doing the master's full time and are looking to just earn some money while you study? If so, you'll be wise to limit your work to maybe 8 hours per week, perhaps more during the uni holidays. The advice on bar/hotel work is wise as it's flexible, the downside being it's not well paid! Trying to temp in an office or something probably won't work due to the commitments of the course.
I will soon be joining the others in this thread who worked while doing a master's part time - just had an interview yesterday where I was offered employment and sponsorship of the master's I'm due to start in September! I feel like it's all my birthdays and Christmases come at onceThat said, I'm yet to find out how many hours I will be working and how many I will be studying...

My sister is starting her MSc in September in Heritage Policy, and she works for Durham Cathedral (tourism side). She's doing her Masters to get off the 'shop floor' and into administrative/monument inspector/grants funding side of the industry. Saying that though, its the job she was doing as an undergrad and is getting more hours for, and she has been working in the sector for almost 10 years.0
