Would you want an en suite WITHOUT a door

Hi All

New place I'm buying, planning to put an en suite with large walk in shower, loo and sink, no huge bath or extra cupboards, to the main bedroom.

Thought about having a wider doorway opening, but no actual door, making it more like 'part of the bedroom' plus more natural light and an open plan, feel.

So....do you all think, not a good idea, over privacy concerns, although I dont expect there to be too many people in the bedroom at once!! - or as plenty of images on line, show no actual door. Although some do try to 'hide' the loo, behind a smaller or shorter wall, in some places.

Or would you do it and not worry about 'privacy'?

Thanks in advance

Even with a door, en suites can be noisy at night if your partner gets up and pees like a horse.

    I'd want a door.

Always had doors on our en suites. When you're younger, as we were once, privacy wasn't a problem but pooing in an en suite without a door certainly would have been. Extractors can also be very noisy so waiting ten minutes with no door on would be very annoying.

Looks-wise it can be very contemporary.

Practically though it's a terrible idea.

Condensation from steam, and smells, really want to be contained within the bathroom.

I'd have a door to stop any noise, steam, smells.

But if I was building it myself I wouldn't have a standard hinged door because they take up a lot of space, I'd have a sliding door that retracted into a partition wall (the gap between the plasterboard)

If you got the styling right it could look open plan when the door was open, yet you could still close it off when required.

I would insist on a door because of the smell (and the sound effects).

I live alone, nobody but me would ever see an en-suite ... I'd still want a door because you never know when/why you might wish to shut it.

If a door offends you ... could you get a hideaway/sliding door?

I think if you ever share that bedroom with anyone, there has to be a door. People dont want others watching them wiping their bums, doing a poo, changing a tampon, or puking up.

If you are alone, what about when you sell? Your buyer will be totting up how much it will cost to put a door on!
