For anyone travelling to California in the near future you may wish to be aware of the fires in the area, especially if like me you have planned a road trip.

Big Sur is currently open but local advice is to stay clear of it due to smoke and access for emergency services.

Another potentially useful source of up-to-date information is the CalTrans (California Department of Transportation) road information web page:
