Travel Insurance?

A friend has had a fall, bruised ribs which is very, very painful, lucky not broken............ due to fly out next Friday, has insurance. A&E where she went has not said she can't fly .......does she need a doctors cert to say she can't go? Would they pay out so near to departure date? Flight is over 4 hours so can't see her doing it unless a great improvement in a few days. She is over 70.

She needs to check her policy for exact requirements to make a successful claim, but almost certainly needs a doctor's note, and won't be able to choose herself whether or not she is safe to fly.

Insurer will pay out as long as she has met the policy conditions.

She should see her doctor; explain how she feel; and ask if it is a good idea to fly. Then ask for that response in writing.
  • She needs to inform her insurance company of her accident.

Often insurance claim forms have a section that has to be filled in and signed by the GP or consultant. A doctors note or letter doesn't always suffice as the claim form has questions on it. If they say she's not fit to fly then she should contact her insurers for a claim form, cancel her trip and get cancellation documents from the various suppliers. They need sending off to the insurers together with the completed claims form.

If they say she is fit to fly then she should get a fit to fly letter from whoever gave her the go ahead.
