Internal Promotion - What Payrise to expect?

Hi All

So I wondered if any1 has any idea, to my Q below, maybe from previous experience or background.

So I applied for a Team Leader role, as a vacancy came up, from being a normal team member. I have been informed verbally that I have been successful, and will be given a package / contract in due course...with terms, benefits, new salary etc.

My Q is. As its an internal role. What sort of rise is normal to expect. - Percentage wise.

I have never had an internal rise / promotion. I have generally moved jobs to secure substantial rise in pay. So how does it work with an internal move?

I would suggest 10-15% if you're lucky. Doubt it will be more than that.

In our place, it's a rise to the bottom of the pay range for that band or, if you are already paid more than that (due to overlapping ranges), £500 as a recognition of getting a new job. No more than that - you're meant to be cockahoop that you've now in a higher band with a higher ceiling rate.

Sounds like my situation. I am already into the new band!
But..hopefully it wont be so stringent!

May have been prudent to gauge their reaction to your expectations before committing. If they offer little in the way of a package can you return to you previous post?

Probably very little! I mean, why would they offer a lot more if you've already taken the role?

\Did i state that i had accepted the offer???

If i did, that was a mistake cos i havent. i have been told verbally that I was successful. But I have yet to accept, as I have yet to verbally given a written offer, with terms, etc.

I am asking the Q as I am js prepping myself for what is likely to be a realistic expectation for an offer. And to know how best to play it, when the offer comes in!

I meants that my current salary as a Team Member is already in the same band as the TL role.

I.e. High in the Team member banding, but Low on the TL banding.

If they have defined pay bands for different grades then its likely that they have existing rules for pay on internal promotions.

If your current salary is within the payband for the higher grade I would expect and payrise to be minimal.
