Stiff Double Glazing windows

Hi.
Our Double Glazing was fitted around six years ago, now each window is stiff to open and close.
What can I use to lubricate the hinges? Some parts of each hinge are metal to metal, others are plastic running along metal channels.
Never had much faith in WD40 (works OK at first then dries up), so is there an ideal product for this? Perhaps something with silicone in it?

Do you have an idea about why the have become stiff to open? Is there any distortion to them or their enclosure? I don't suppose you could use grease as a lubricant, it could be messy?0

I had somebody come to adjust our back door which had dropped a bit. He said to lubricate any hinges and moving parts with a silicone spray. The easiest thing to get hold of is Turtle Wax Cockpit Shine from Halfords. I've just used it to lubricate a piano hinge on a kitchen cupboard door that's squeaked since installation about 18 years ago. Lovely and quiet now and the spray is clean and leaves no visible trace if you wipe the excess off.Make £2025 in 2025

Contrary to popular belief. WD40 is not a lubricant. Its main use is as a water repellent. Although it does have some lubricating effect for a short while after application.0

Same answer - our window fitters advises silicone spray. WD40 now do a silicone spay and a contact cleaner as well as the standard WD40.
Just used some as part of my annual maintenance - a quick spray on the moving parts and seals, move the handle and lock a few times and the job's done.
If that doesn't work, you might need some adjustment of the hinges - looks easy when you get someone in, but I've never cracked how to do it!0 -
Thanks everyone.
No, no distortion, just hinges dried out I suppose. The silicon spray sounds the ticket. I'll look it up.

Myth: WD-40® Multi-Use Product is not really a lubricant.
Fact: While the “W-D” in WD-40® stands for Water Displacement, WD-40® Multi-Use Product is a unique, special blend of lubricants. The product’s formulation also contains anti-corrosion agents and ingredients for penetration, water displacement and soil removal. One man's folly is another man's wife. Helen Roland (1876 - 1950)0 -
another vote for silicone spray or a graphite lubricant.0
