Hi,
Will try not to be long in post but need to give a bit of background.
Knew very early on with Ds1 that I was having a section. Have bicornuate uterus and was transverse. Didn't do any AN classes.
Am now expecting second child. Assumed it would be the same but at 20 weeks baby is the right way and consultant pushing for me to try a VBAC if baby stays in this position.
However, he has booked me in for a section as is expecting baby to end up transeverse again so won't know until 31 or 37 weeks what kind of birth I'm going to have.
How soon do you need to book a doula and what happens if you ask for them to help and then end up having a planned c section anyway??
Thanks for any help.Tomorrow is a new day with no mistakes in it yet...0 -
hi ya. first of all congrats
You need to be looking for a doula as soon as you can, as some of us get booked up fast. Most people who contact me are around 30wks pregnant, but I have also had a lady contact me at 12wks and another at 38. But to give you the most choice sooner rather than later is better.
Doulas can still be great support for planned c-sections too, especially if you plan to BF or you have an anxious partner. Depends on the doula as regards what they will charge for a cancellation. As we are all self employed. Please look on the Doula UK website and go to the find a doula page. Good luck with your search and if you have any problems PM me and I'll see what I can do.Proud to be sorting my life out!

Hi, I had an awful time with my second baby - felt completely out of control, had a midwife who was very cold and bossy - and I am really interested in having a doula for the birth of my third child, sometime in October. Am I right in thinking a doula is someone who would speak up for me if I was unable to do this clearly at the time, (as I was last time)? Does a doula go through a birth plan with the mother? I wasn't encouraged to make one of these during my second pregnancy, and don't feel I had enough information to make the right decisions when I needed to. Sorry if this is something I should be asking on the doula site itself, I will do that, but I'm just wondering about making enquiries at the moment. Thanks

Yes on both accounts.
If you are in North Wales I can highly recommend my doula. She was fantastic and my labour would have been completely different without her.
A good doula should be willing to answer any questions you have BEFORE you decided whether or not to go with her.
Your best bet is to try to find a local doula and contact her to ask lots of questions before making up your mind.
Congratulations and best wishes.
Feel free to PM me."Finish each day And be done with it.
