Porch build questions

see picture attached. I am building a porch which has just received planning approve. I have some questions.
we plan to have the porch to have the same size door as the current door. And the piller as a wall.
1) Does this porch need a cavity wall? Or should we double brick like the piller. We was going to tooth into the pillar and carry on building.
2) if it is double bricked, do we need to double brick the side that hits the garage wall(on left).
3) how deep and wide we make trench?
4) we have to remove step. Under the main floor how deep should we go?
5) how deep should we put concrete?
6) at what stage should we stop work for inspector to see? After footings done? After concrete put in?
7) what's best way to cover trenches while they are exposed. Don't want the postman falling in
8) can I reduce width of porch? I noticed a vent below. The approval said subject to following plans.
9) anything else?

Surely these are questions that you should be asking or already have had answered by your builder/architect, else how did you get planning permission. How about building regulations approval?0

This one made me titter a little.
Building regs dictate what you have to do, doesn't come under planning, that only looks at appearance/impact,
However, and very loosely;
1) if it's not inhabited it can be single or double brick
2) No
3) Twice the width of the wall min, and as deep as needed until supportive material hit, anything from 600mm to 6000mm
4) As far as needed until what was supporting the step is found.
5) 100m mm min over 50mm min insulation, not dictated by BC for non inhabited areas but will make the porch warmer to the feet.
6) BC will tell you the inspection levels, cover these over at your peril
7) Spikes and hazard tape, and not sharp spikes. Board over if he has to get to the door. Increase insurance re public liability if you are creating a building site.
8) Enforcement will not pursue any issues do to the erection being smaller than approved, ( but your partner may do););)
9) ANything else? yes do as the earlier poster said and get help, :money::money: but not at any risk.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
Building Regs. don't usually apply to porches.
Copied this from council website
For a porch to be exempt from Building Regulations it must be;
Less than 30 square metres
It must be separated from the habitable parts of the dwelling by external quality windows / doors.
Any heating or cooling systems must have independent controls / thermostat.
A 5 mtr x 6 mtr porch, wow. I thought that was a miss-print at 1st as I recall something about a porch needing to be under 3 sq mtrs to be exempt from planning, (from a long time back).
However that being so applying building reg standards yourself is good practice even if not a legal requirement.
To be honest if I was building something that size I'd actually involve BC as I'd want a cert to present on leaving the property.
I'm guessing the OP is doing something more modest:DI like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Yes it is somewhat large !
I imagine that this rule brings it into line with the footprint for a conservatory which is also exempt from BR.
I wonder if BC would certify a porch not within the scope of BR, but maybe the fees would get them engaged ?
OP's development seems to be less than 3m sq. anyway.Forgotten but not gone.0 -
