    Unlikely.
How close to travel is it, who are you booked with and what do their terms and conditions say about cancellation?
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

If you don't have insurance, you are bound by their terms and conditions, which likely do not cover you (that's what insurance is for). As the above poster states, check your T&Cs.

worth checking if you have any insurance through bank accounts etc
refunds from the tour operator will range from loss of deposit only (usually for cancellation 70 days+ notice which I am guessing does not apply here) to zero refund if travelling in the next 14 days
Insurance should either be taken from when you book the holiday (for situations such as this) or, if not, you are carrying the risk yourself

I'd just force her to go ..... it's still a holiday, surely, even if she's less able to do stuff she'd have chosen to do before.

    A holiday is a holiday.

    Is it a package holiday?

F YOU WISH TO CANCEL YOUR PACKAGE HOLIDAY

If you or a member of your party needs to cancel your confirmed arrangements, the party leader must immediately advise us in writing. Your notice of cancellation will take effect when it is received at our offices. As we incur costs from the time we confirm your booking, we will levy the following cancellation charges. The percentage cancellation charge detailed is calculated on the basis of the total cost payable by the person(s) cancelling excluding amendment charges. Amendment charges are not refundable in the event of the person(s) to whom they apply cancelling.
Prior to 70 days: Total flight cost plus 15% of the total accommodation and other elements
69 - 42 days: Total flight cost plus 30% of total cost of the accommodation and other elements
41 - 34 days: Total flight cost plus 70% of total cost of the accommodation and other elements
33 - 7 days: Total flight cost plus 90% of total cost of the accommodation and other elements
Less than 7 days: 100% of total cost of booking

These cancellation charges apply to all bookings, except where a booking includes items or services where our suppliers' own cancellation charges exceed those shown above. Please enquire at the time of booking as up to 100% cancellation charges may apply from the time of booking.

You could always ask of you can change the dates of travel. That may be cheaper.

    A holiday is a holiday.

Probably nice to recuperate elsewhere - only thing is that she may be in POP or brace and at risk of DVT / unable to fly etc etc

They should have got insurance - can't imagine they would have had any problem in paying out
