my contract for phone tv and broadband with bt is almost up, due to poor customer service and cost plus the fact that their cashback deals are not open to existing customers, i will not be renewing, if i cancel (as opposed to moving to another provider) ive read that i have to pay £30 cancellation charge - is this right?
im also considering doing without my landline and using my iphone as a hotspot for my laptop - i m with giffgaff on their £12 a month bundle and this seems to work well for me

my question is does anyone have experience of the above and how is it working out?

You will have to pay the cease charge as you will not be moving to a another provider, who may absorb the cost.

Will just 2GB per month be enough for your needs?

At the cost of £30 exit its worth trying out for a month or two.

I just switched to mobile tethering and cancelled my home phone and broadband package a couple of weeks ago.

I had really patchy service and no phone line for ages (ironically while the switch over to super-fast fibre broadband was happening in my area).

I don't know whether I just had really cr*p service before but I'm very happy now. I have an unlimited broadband package and more than enough calls and texts to do me. I messenger my kids and friends anyway, so the only calls I've made so far are to the previous broadband providers. Having said that, I haven't watched movies or tv shows yet, so I don't know how they'll load.

I'm mainly using email, social media, google docs/sheets and they've all been fine.

What is the cease charge for, exactly, if someone is out of contract? I didn't have to pay anything like that; in fact, I didn't have to pay the bill that was due for the last billing period as they could see I had reported problems and they'd not been resolved.
I'm an adult and I can eat whatever I want whenever I want and I wish someone would take this power from me.

The cease charge covers work at the exchange.
  • "John Lewis Broadband and phone"

    They resell Plusnet

    who are owned by......

    BT

    https://www.johnlewisbroadband.com/buying-guide/

Having said that, I use and like Plusnet.

Other than Virgin Media (and a few other very local operators), everyone uses the Openreach (BT) physical network and Openreach implementation staff.
