Cordless Vacuum Batteries

Hi, I'm trying to decide between two models of Morphy Richards Cordless Vac.
One has a battery of 18V and the other is 24V. The price difference is £30. (Amazon).

Does the 6V only mean the vac carries on working a bit longer, or would it really make a noticeable power difference?

All the comparisons seem to concentrate on the "run" time rather than "power" so just wondering if it's worth the extra £30 for just 5 minutes extra use?

Thanks.

Higher voltage means lower current drain for the same power
    or
More power for the same current drain.

The only things of real interest are
How powerful it is and with vacuum cleaners that is hard to judge as higher wattage doesn't of necessity mean more suck.

    and

How long it will run for.

It may be that the higher voltage one will run longer and be more powerful but there is absolutely no guarantee of that. You may just as well compare the colours.

You should check out whatever reviews you can find.

Thanks - so it's a question of tossing a coin I suppose (or £30-worth), manufacturers hardly ever actually answer the questions customers ask.

Trouble with reviews, most people think these are great, others say they're rubbish and seem to expect the power of a jet engine from a tiny vacuum cleaner! Oh, and I can't find anyone reporting they've tried and compared the two models so I suspect you're right - it's down to what colour I prefer :-)

After having 2 Black and Decker cordless vacs with non-replaceable batteries in a row lose power so become useless within 18 months, I've now got an expensive Dyson after checking for sure that replacement batteries can be had. Just too annoying to chuck otherwise good appliances.

I'm looking at Morphy Richards, not Black & Decker, and Dyson are too expensive.

It is still worth checking if the batteries are replaceable and what type they are if you can find that info.

I'd avoid NiCad because they are the worst to suffer from getting stuck with a low charge capacity.
NiMh are better and Li-Ion is the best but also usually quite a bit more expensive.

Unless you can find a model with Li-Ion batteries fairly cheap then NiMh are probably the value sweetspot.

    Have you considered a G-Tech?

Battery voltage is a bit like water pressure - how hard it can 'push'. A higher voltage battery will likely be in a system where it can develop more power from the motor, so more suck for your buck.

I saw some good offers for Vax cordless on an email from Martin.
It's your money. Except if it's the governments.
