Hello,
In our own place for a year & now is the time to remove awful gas fire & red brick surrounds & hearth. We intend to replace with electric stove (more for looks than heat) and have found a pine surround on ebay we will install ourselves. We don't want to permanently block chimney as we intend to sell on in about 5 years.
We're not local to this area so don't have any connections with local builders. The following is a quote I got from local fireplace shop.
Quote: £720.00 inc vat
Not having any experience, I have no idea if this is a fair quote. Does this seem a bit high? Know we'll need a gas certified person to remove gas fire but didn't think the rest of the work would be this costly. I'm in NW London btw.
Cheers

- Remove and dispose of old fireplace
- Take opening back to original builders opening
- Make good to adjacent area where old fireplace has been removed .
- Plasterboard inside of opening
- Install lintel as necessary
- Install closure plate in chimney ,to block off
