As the title says don't update the program version of avast, virus one ok, its broken and will leave your windows unprotected.
Check avast forum if you want more info.
Probably a fix in the offing soon but very slow about it, according to users on forum.

Oh. I updated last night and it seems fine today.
I notice that the update also installed the Avast SafePrice adware, which I had to manually remove via the installer options.0
