relaxing games for kids (before bed)

I am looking for game suggestions for myself and nine year old to play just before he goes up to bed.

They need to be simple, quick to play and not need much setting up or putting away.

Currently we play uno or pizza party http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Paul-Lamond-Pizza-Party-Game-/322119145032?hash=item4affcc1648:g:aPsAAOSwNsdXQz1f

Thanks

How about more traditional games; draughts, backgammon, cards or even chess?

Or things like connect 4, top trumps, noughts and crosses, pick up sticks?

Perhaps Snap if you like card games.

Don't play games 'just before bedtime' as your 9 year old will go to bed with an active brain, resulting in very poor sleep.

Play them after tea/dinner and give your child a chance to wind down so that they are relaxed by lights out.

    Kids need calm, not excitement.

Knew I shouldn't have posted on this board, I do try to stay away from it, as there is always someone ready to criticise.

What exactly do you suggest he does before bedtime?

Obviously he is not allowed to play computer games, likewise tv is not suppose to be good for a child to watch just before bed, so what can he do? Notice in the tile I did say relaxing games.

He is never going to sit still and do nothing, he just doesn't. He does read but he does that once he gets to bed my idea.

Thanks to all those who replied sensibly to the question I actually asked.

Obviously my suggestions weren't what you you wanted , but as a mom who has gone through this and survived , I thought you might appreciate it.

Personally, I don't think that today's 9 year olds will be too over stimulated by draughts, connect 4 or ludo to sleep!

Wait till you have over-stimulated kids who are up till 3 in the morning and then you really will get it it with soddin knobs on.

My kids love board games before bed and it's a great way to bond and also help them develop. Your son might be at an age where he is starting to appreciate strategy games like battleships and stratego but we also love uno and card games. My son is 13 now and starting to be quite hormonal and moody so it's great to still be able to sit down with him and play a game in the evenings sometimes x

I come from a different era. I used to read stories to my kids and then they went zonko.
You know what uranium is, right? It's this thing called nuclear weapons. And other things. Like lots of things are done with uranium. Including some bad things.
