I have done it for the convenience. There's always the 'what if no-one buys it' question. I part-ex'd my last car in July as I knew it was knackered out (140k miles in 5.5 years) and needed a lot of work to be done to make it saleable.

Before that, I sold my previous car privately and reckon I made and extra £1k than if I'd part ex-d it. But that one was low mileage and still under warranty. I suppose it's horses for courses.

That is one case where part-ex does come in handy, if you have a rust bucket thats worth £0 that needs getting rid of. However, the costs of getting rid of it will filter to you anyway, as they'll simply offer you less discount to make up for the salvage costs to get it crushed.
