To confirm, I know the socket works because other devices run off it fine and I have tried plugging the controller into other working sockets using an extension cable (the same one I use for the lawnmower, so I know that's not at fault either).
We have one the same - occasionally it sort of freezes and switching the plug off for a minute seems to fix it.
Looks like you've already tried that, so maybe time to call the professionals!

Aye. I've not seen any signs of life for a week and nothing obvious in the wires or circuitboard. One for the professionals now, I think. Thank you all for your contributions, though. I really appreciate your efforts.0

Just to follow up on this. The last time I posted was 4th August and there had been no signs of life in the controller unit for several days. In fact, after I took the cover off for a visual inspection there were no subsequent signs of life all throughout the summer. However, I switched it on at the wall again a couple of days ago and it was 'alive' again (in the sense that there was some electrical switching sounds for a moment and the 'on' light came on again). It has remained like this for the past couple of days. I haven't tried raising the door with it yet so have no idea if it is fully functional or not, but after many weeks of appearing completely dead it now appears to have risen Lazarus-like from its deceased state. The only factor that has changed is that it has gotten bloody cold again of late. I will still need to get it fixed by a pro (when I've got some spare cash and/or actually need to be able to open the door electronically; most likely when I sell the place and move on!!) but at least s/he will have some extra info to work with. It seems to me that a connection is loose and expanding sufficiently in the cold to restore contact but shrinks again whether the temperatures increase. Maybe I'll trying blowing it with a hairdryer to see if that knocks it off again...0

Had two of these seceuroglide control boxes. Same model different names.
Turn off power take cover off and unscrew circuit board from holders, leave all wires connected and tip towards you to look at back. Mine had resistor loose dry burnt melted solder on the back.
Repaired lasted a few years then went completely. Both
Changed like for like with an Ansa RS1 control units, same wires easy to fit.
Usually about £80 to £90 from dealers, but I emailed then telephoned direct to ANSA and bought direct.

Thank you for the suggestion, I really appreciate it. Will certainly give it a go. It's always nice to get a recommendation too.0

Big thanks to Hasbeen for the contact details for Steve at ANSA, what a guy, he is flogging me the control board despite me ordering the 2.2k ohm resistors over the weekend in the hope I may have a spare if I repair it, this resistor going pop seems a common issue0
