Walk in shower

We are thinking about getting a walk in shower to replace our bath (I have just had a replacement knee and as such, have limited mobility)
I have seen AQUABILITY - Who, appears to be good quality - but what do they cost ?
Their website does not even venture a guess.
We have a bathroom window above the bath - so this may limit our choice.
Any advice welcome.

Have you got the resources for your bathroom to be reorganised, despite our bathroom being not much more than 7x4ft we've got a bath and a separate shower. It is a very low rise tray on the shower which we got from Plumbase, I would try and avoid the mobility type companies as they will add ££££
Oh and we have a window almost the full length of the long wall.Thrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End
You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time0 -

We don't want a bath - prefer a larger shower cubilcle !!
We don't have unlimited funds - but have "enough"
Bathroom size approx 10feet by 6 feet
I was attracted by aquabilitys claims to manufacture off site and fit it all in one day.
but the cost is not available on-line
so I was wondering if anyone here had used them ?0 -
I've not heard of aquability.
How about a wet room instead? The floor and walls are fully tiled, a drain in the floor and a normal shower above the drain. I love itChanging the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0 -
I'd get a quote from Aquability, for comparison purposes, but be wary. These mobility companies rely heavily on salesmen who you'll never get rid of once they're inside.
Don't take anything they say for granted, and don't be fooled by their big "discounts" if you make a decision today.
Get a couple of local plumbers to quote too. Send them the pic of what you are after and they will be able to provide and fit something very similar.0 -

Good luck with the knee replacement. Hopefully before long you'll be a bit more mobile again.
Others are offering good advice here - please consider all the options. It's possible you could lose out big-time financially in two ways here - both by being fleeced by a company squeezing silly sums out of vulnerable elderly and disabled people, and in terms of the hit on your house price if you are in the position of leaving your house with no bath.
Regarding disruption, a bathroom can be redone in about a week normally. Perhaps it might be possible to move out for a week to a relative's, or even a Travelodge nearby or something? Think of it as a little holiday, if you can get a good recommendation of bathroom fitter from someone you know?
Finances may not be your first consideration, but it's the kind of thing people regret jumping in and doing. My mum had quotes for a similar thing as well as a stair lift, when she was having problems including two knee replacements. She was on the verge of getting them done till she stopped and thought about it, and decided to move to a brand new ground floor flat instead. She has been there several years now and feels it was the best decision she ever made. Everything's new and she doesn't have to worry about maintenance of the house etc.0 -

Does a good quality walk in shower really drop the value of a 3 bed semi - compared to a cheap bath ?
And - we won't get fleeced by anyone - We are both astute people - well aware of scams etc...
One added problem - we have 2 cats (who I suppose could spend a holiday in kennels)
But I am only 52 (wife is 47) - so no OAP home just yet !!
I am now walking short distances without a zimmer frame - and my knee was only replaced 8 days ago - so things look good for a swift recovery........0 -
Just read some poor reports on Aquability - so will be avoiding them in any case
They evidently tend to ignore after sales support calls !!0 -
I would get a few bathroom designers up for free quotes/design as it might make sense to reshuffle the layout. I dislike baths (have never used the one in my house) and prefer showers but watch the size of the cubicles and dont underestimate how much room you will need.
I have double cubicles in the ensuites but had to replace one and we went with a smaller size and really dislike it. If you are used to a shower over the bath with plenty space for hair washing, leg shaving etc consider a double cubicle as there is lots more freedom. If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0
