Alumunium windows in a bay question

u rating 1.2 and multi point locking. Other quotes in now 4K for one firm for aluminium, u rating 1.6 multi lock thermal break, and other was wood frames for 5K, excellent company, Which recommended and the bloke was ace, but I favour aluminium. I think this first quote is a good deal and firm rated highly on mybuilder. My guess, and it is only a guess, is that a building firm is coming in less than a window firm. We shall see. I shall let you all know, one way or the other.0

your aluminium is a decent price and as said suprisedc its cheaper than upvc . just two different firms with different prices . I like alli but cannot fit it often enough due to the cost of buying /fitting v upvc . hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0

For me it confirms that there is something way out on the first quote - a worse performing window comes in at double the cost?!
Sorry op, I just can't see a well performing durable alu window coming in at half the price of PVC and half the price of another (lesser) alu window... If something sounds to good to be true...This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I don't disagree but I think the first uPVC quote looked high . Pop a pic up if you can or PM just to us 2 . opening a bay and making a door with sides is under a 2k job in plastic . I supposed its all down to the work involved and whats above the bay . Alli is never cheap but the spec and locking systems do differ a lot . infact a lot a lot .
Posh firms drive posh cars and have posh holidays . They don't always deliver posh products . hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0 -
I agree, the UPVC first quote was way over. West London companies don't want to schlep over East and vice versa. It's a small bay. Hand made wood frames from a high end company came in at just over 5K which gives you an idea, not a big job. 3.5K for UPVC was ridiculous. Some companies say two days work, others one.
My radiator was moved and two new ones installed with a boiler drain down etc and I was quoted £285, £220 and £175 respectively. That was almost entirely labour costs as I supplied the rads.
Some building guys get paid £100 a day for labour others £300. If it's cash you don't pay the VAT. So many variables.
We'll see - I'll let you know.0 -
