Buying $ digital goods online with a Halifax Clarity

Just been reading how good the Halifax Clarity card is for spending abroad.

I purchase quite alot of $ based digital products for web site building. Always usually buy them via my credit card which incurs a Sterling fee or via Paypal which I notice always has a terrible $ exchange rate.

Should I consider a Halifax Clarity just for purchasing $ goods online and therefore potentially eliminating a sterling transaction fee. I assume it is a credit card just like any other but I did notice a post on the £5 bonus being scrapped so not quite sure how it all works.

PS - Is there a card that offers the best exchange rate/s

This is the card that offers the best exchange rate (well, one of the few that do). I always use mine for online foreign currency purchases.

Halifax Clarity will work fine for you, also the Creation Everyday and MBNA Everyday Plus credit cards have no foreign fees and lower APR than Clarity.

A alternative that can be set up in minutes and involves no credit check is the Revolut prepaid MasterCard, perfect interbank exchange rate (slightly off on weekends), no fees and the virtual card is ready to use online as soon as you load some funds. You can also exchange to dollars any time, if/when (you think) the rate is favourable.

Don't forget, you must set your Paypal account to bill you in USD. They don't make it easy. I managed it once, then struggled when I changed CCs.

Not many countries accept Greek gods. Not even Greece.

Always pay in the currency local to the country you are buying from. Which may be Euros, Dollars, Pounds etc.

Not always the case, 9 times yes. There are a few sites that give you the option of paying in different currencies and they sometimes round it down to the market rate.

You also have places where US dollars is worth more and becomes the main currency outside the Government because how worthless the national currency is.

The Travelex Supercard is probably about the best if you don't need/want a dedicated travel debit/credit card.

You get the MasterCard interbank rate with 0% commission.
