Painting bedroom wardrobes

Just getting ready to paint some wardrobes that need refreshing.

I don't know what material they are made out of, is it melamine?
Do they need a special primer and then separate undercoat first before a top coat of satinwood?
Or would a combined primer /undercoat be better?
And if they are melamine does it have to be a special melamine primer/undercoat? So many products available it gets confusing.
Just trying to work out whats needed before going to bq.
Thanks.

Theres a great product which is getting rave reports, its Called FRENCHIC paint. Its a type of chalk paint and one of its products needs no prep at all. If you look for it on Facebook you will see lots of pictures of success stories.0

I would prime with Zinnser, you can use any top coat of your choice.
Very adhesive and durable. I used Zinnser then Dulux trade eggshell (from trade centre) with excellent results.0 -
Thanks aggypanthus and adandem.
Do you know which zinsser product it was as they have a few primers.
Also, would satinwood look ok? As I have some left from painting the woodwork in the house so I might as well use it if it would look ok.0 -
Zinnser BIN. I used the 123 purely because I had lots left from another job. Satin is fine, we did ours the same colour as the walls to make them blend and make the room look bigger. Please bear in mind that the primer takes a week to cure. You can paint over it within that time though.0
