There are viruses that send emails from your computer.
I doubt it would be a virus. You can make emails appear from any address you want when sending them so a virus that uses someone's email would be pretty pointless.0 -
You should be able to enable SPF record for your domain name in your hosting control panel.
The SPF system allows you to specify servers and IP addresses that are authorized to send mail from your domain(s). This feature works to prevent outgoing spam messages.
Also avoid using catch-all email addresses as these help facilitate spoofing of your domain.
LOL
What could the OP do to avoid their original problem by editing their SPF records ?
There is obviously no SPF record to indicate that the spoofers ip is allowed to send on behalf of the OP's domain .
Thats why the OP is getting these messages in the first place !!

Happened to a tech-unsavvy neighbour last year. I asked her to set up a new Email address, she asked me to do that. I gave her a new address and password, Bcc'd all her contacts with the attached message "My old account is compromised. This is my new email address. Please use it from now on."
Her problem was made more complicated as part of an attempted ID theft: caused by her using her family name within the old address. All that was needed to compromise her ID, was for the baddies to use the Electoral Roll and find her physical address. She was subjected to more Scam mail than you would believe. I have since shown her how to remove her name from the Roll and the police were involved in the ID theft. People, do not use anything in electronic communications that can be used to trace you!I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.
