Hyundai ix35 v Seat Altea XL
Hi all,
Looking for some advice, we are considering either a Hyundai ix35 or a Seat Altea XL. Now I know these are two different types of cars but we do like the look of both.
We are looking to keep the car for many years to come so we want something reliable.
We have seen:
A ix35 62/2012 plate 50,000 on clock diesel 1.7 CRDI
or
An Altea XL 63/2013 plate with around 30k on clock 1.6 TDI
Would really appreciate your views on this, i have about £9000 to spend.
Thanks,
Darren

I've got the Altea XL 1.6 Ecomotive, previously having had a 55 plate Toledo.
The economy on the Altea isn't as good as you'd think so if you're doing decent miles then go for the 1.9tdi. The only win for the 1.6 is the tax at £30 a year.
If you're looking at 9k for the Altea then I think you're overpaying by about 1k. Also have you considered the Yeti or Sportage. Slightly bigger but better.0 -
Sportage isn't in our price range sadly, which is why we are looking at the ix35.
The 9k Altea XL was from a dealership so it came with 12 month warranty.
Any other views on the ix35/Altea please?0 -
Is it that i'm being too specific, the forum has always be really good for advice?0

With the VED hikes coming in April 2017, economical cars regd before this date will hold their value well. It'll make people hang on hard to their old superminis too. Another Osborne tax gaffe that May should get reformed IMO.0

Ok, so i'm now thinking of the ix35.. its 50k on clock, what can i expect modern details to go to?0

The ix35 should come with its balance of 5 year warranty. It shares a platform with the i30. 50K miles is not high for the 1.7CRDi. Dealer servicing is a little more than you might expect.0

Thanks for the reply, what would you say this engine should run too without too much trouble?

You see them for sale with mileages well into six figures. That seems like a good price to me for a car well liked by owners.0

My neighbour was unlucky with his diesel Hyundai, had teething troubles at the start but then just after warranty expired at 5 years the auto 'box gave up, he was quoted £4K to fix, so he got rid. That's the problem with modern high tech cars, one expensive repair can write it off. Which makes me recall the time me & a friend in our younger and fitter days got the gearbox out from under a Ford Cortina and replaced it with a working one from a breakers. How times have changed.0
