Eventus Plus Debt WORRIED

Hi I don't know if I am in the right place or not but I have no idea where to find help about this.
I went on holiday to Kavos last July and ended up in A&E one night for around an hour, I was insured for this holiday and had the information on my email. I went back to the centre the next day to give insurance details but the internet in Kavos would not allow me to log into my emails (which others reported as a problem) So I was given a contact card to email them my details once home and that all costs would be covered if I did this. I flew home the next day and as soon as I arrived at midnight my details were sent over to the address according to the card. I still have this card. I never received an email back or heard anything else so presumed everything was sorted like they told me. Then in November last year I received a letter stating that I owed £412 to Corfu Medical Centre, the letter was from a company called Eventus Plus who I could not find any reliable information about online and searched some forums and people had received the same letters but had appeared to be a type of scam and nothing was heard again. I also emailed the medical centre stating my concerns and attaching a copy of the original email that was sent in July, again no reply despite the email actually marking as sent. I have now received another letter today stating that £412 is still owed and if I do not pay then it may go to court, The letter looks reasonably professional despite some spelling mistakes, so I am now very worried as I do not have £412. I did everything I was told to do whilst in Kavos and believed it to be solved. The only information online about this company I can easly find is complaint resolution debt websites to submit complaints about this company. I also tried to contact Eventus Plus last time but received no reply. So what do I do about this situation? Who do I go to? What rights do I have etc. I would of paid the balance in July last year If I had heard back from them and they required money but they said I wouldn't if I sent the insurance to them, which I did.

Hi, sorry to hear you have this worry.

I don't have much to offer, but I have just search 'Corfu Medical Centre' and nothing is coming up. Does that name actually match the hospital you attended? Good luck

Also if you put Eventus Plus into the search engine, you will find other people who have dealt with these people.

Looks like a scam to me.

Shouldn't you be referring this to the insurance company who insured you for your holiday ?
It would normally be up to them to deal with it, not you.

What you have received is a standard "payuporelse" DCA letter, full of misinformation, and possible maybe`s.

I doubt very much it will be chased for long.

  • Thank you for all your replies, I am feeling a little more positive about this now. And yes the card states 'Corfu Medical Service' and has Corfu Medical Centre on it. I have had contact from Eventus saying that I now need to pay £225 excess on my insurance and they will solve it if I contact them. I do not have this £225 a year later, which if it had been sorted at the time and replies received this could of been paid. I was told at the time the total cost would not come to more than 100 euros of so, so do not understand the £400. I do not deny receiving treatment in Kavos but surely this is an error on their part as I was more than willing to resolve at the time but have never heard anything from them to this day apart from Eventus. If worse comes to worse and it does go to court, how will they see it? Thanks again for taking the time to reply everyone and I do hold some hope that you are all right. I have just never had 'unpaid' debt before.
  • Hi, my son has just arrived back from Kavos where he received medical attention from Corfu Medical Services. He was asked to return the following morning with his passport, flight details and insurance documents.

He was a bit concerned about this and never went back. He received a letter at his hotel from the medical centre stating that if he didn't do so he would be billed at home.

I phoned the medical centre to ask what treatment he had received and how much it was costing. No one was able to tell me, but I was told to e-mail them and they would send me details.

I have now got an e-mail from a Pete Clynes at Eventus Plus Ltd asking my son to call them so that they can get clearance for the data protection act and the confidentiality of medical records act. Once they have that clearance they will "happily assist" me.

I'm tempted just to ignore it.

    WeeStephen
  • Hi it is also Peter Clynes who is emailing me. He sent me attached files that he has on me and they are the papers I signed in Kavos.. He cannot tell me why the medical centre never replied to me and that I still need to pay as it is not being handled by the centre anymore. He told me he can assist me with a payment plan. Really do not get this.
  • eventus is a debt collecting company run buy peter clynes. corfu medical services is a simple outpatient facility in kavos owned b ya doctor called Kantas and his wife who is not adoctor.
what they do is they try toovercharge insurance comoanies and patients .sothetrick is to getthe patient in by coming to | < agreements > with hotel, reps and tour opertaors andgetthe patient sin their infirmery. they do not take excess most of the time and promise that everything is ok. then they send a bill to the insurance company of forexample 600 euros for a gastroor 400 foran ear infection, they charge labs, xrays, etc. if theinsurance pays the reasnabeand costumary thenethe send thes to eventus whotakes over. ot they send directlyto eventus because now assiatnce companies knowwhat they do.

    please have in mind.
1.this is a simple outpatient acility and cannot andisnot licensed to charge xrayslabs, transfers, usg etc
    2. ask fromeventus the medical report signed and stampoedby thedoctr whosaw you, this is a strict procedure from the medical councilwithc demands that doctors tosugn and stamp with a stamp stating theirname, VAT number, address of their infirmery and medical council registration number.
    3. ask eventus for the GREEK invoice of the facility. remeber that you were offered medical services in greece and a greek invoice tax compliant should be issued, not a UK invoice from a non medical facility. eventus invoice should be attached with the greek invoice statings ervices and charges. if yiu get it checkthe issue date, if it is recenet and NOT at the day of the incident this is tax evasion. most times especially in the past years this was never issued.
    4. i would be glad to support anyone as we are moving legally know againts them and willdenounce this tothe fiscla authorites for the work done in the past 10 years.

it would be good to send you compalints to newspapers in corfu and to the medical council there

on the imerenetyou can find the corfy medical council email and email for corfu newspapaer. i tried tosend them herenut the forum does not permit
  • I have had dealings with eventus from last year owing to an incident I had in corfu in 2013.
The whole thing is run extremely poorly and contact from eventus was few and far between. When I did receive letter they were poorly written and inconsistent. I've let it roll on for the last year until last month I received a letter from the courts stating that a C.C.J. Will be brought against me. So I looked further into this via a payed website and I found it to be true. So basically all the after all the scaremongering etc etc. Eventus will and can infact claim this money.

The way corfu medical center operate is ridiculous and it's all a massive setup to which I told Peter clynes on the phone. Corfu medical center made no attempt to claim against My insurance and now 3-4 years later I have no idea who I was with.

Massive set up all off it but in the end after much reluctancy I finally paid the debt of today. Do what I did dig in you heels you may get luck and the court be in your favour.

    Hope this helps

Hi Kayleigh (and other posters who report dealings with the same medical centre/debt collectors)

I would seriously consider reporting your experience to the consumer sections of a few UK newspapers. Given Corfu's popularity as a holiday destination with Brits, some may be interested in looking into this on your behalf - and journalists are likely to have greater investigative resources than those available to you.

I do also think the insurer that you had your travel cover from should be playing a more active role in all this.

  • Peter Clynes is listed as one of two directors of Eventus Plus Ltd, so it's probably a very small setup - a two-man band - hence their lack of consistency in presenting information. Theie registered address is an accountancy company, which is not uncommon for self-employed, small and medium-sized businesses to do,

As for the legality of their claims - I can offer no real assistance: send a PROVE IT letter (i anything at all) perhaps?
