Hello, I am new here and am wondering if anyone can help- as I am having a minor panic.
I am 30 yrs old and self employed, my husband and i have just had a cash offer accepted on a run down old cottage in Northern Ireland for 45K. A bargain and something we are very excited about.
I just received a quote from our solicitor, all looks in order but there is an £85 fee which is (approx) for Bankruptcy search fees. 1- we are using savings and not applying for a mortgage so im not sure why they need that search. 2- the fee i believed is normally £2 per name so does this mean it revealed something and requiresfurther action?
When I was 18 years old I left home and bought a laptop on credit (£600) I also had an unpaid overdraft in England of £100. Being young and foolish I moved countries (from England to Ireland) and idiotically left my debts unpaid. I have not had any missed payments of anything since this but never followed up or enquired on either. I have a bank account and Visa card, but no borrowings. I am now running scenarios through my head that debt collectors are going to turn up at my new home and/ or prevent a sale beforehand. I ran an INsolvency search on the .gov website and nothing with my name comes up.
Can anyone advise me on what to do about 1- my unpaid teenage debt which is now 12yrs old since i have seen any correspondanceon it. 2- let me know is this likely to have shown up on the solicitors search, amdwhat can i do about it?!
Thank you in advance.
A worried mum to be.

Debt gets statute barred after 6 years. It doesn't strictly speaking vanish, but only in a few special cases and with a lot of effort by the creditor can it be pursued. So I wouldn't worry at all.
Anyway, it's a cash sale. Your solicitor probably just sent the same templated sheet with the £85 on they send to everyone. But £85 is £85 - remind them its a cash sale and to knock the search off the job. You are the customer.0
