Best Destination in North Wales?

Options
We live in Manchester and we're planning to take a day out in North Wales this weekend.

Ideally we want somewhere that's a combination of the 3:
1. Busy, not quite
2. Shops, arcades etc
3. Beach

Any ideas? :)

Rhyl or Prestatyn would be the nearest resort,

But it always used to be a bit run down.

Llandudno is a bit further out but is in my opinion much nicer, it has a long promenade with Pier and tramway, and you can explore the Great Orme too.

Conwy is also lovely, with the castle and marina, and it's also home to the smallest house in Britain, but no beach.

Thanks! I was actually looking at both, Rhyl & Llandudno, I don't mind up to 2 hours traveling. Out of Rhyl and Llandundo, is any of the 2 busier?

I forgot to mention - the resort has to cater a little for kids..

I don't think either place would be quiet at this time of year I'm afraid, but unless Rhyl has changed in recent years I think I'd prefer Llandudno - If you're wanting a quieter place I think you'd need to head further out to somewhere on Anglesey maybe.

Deganwy is a nice place, but I don't think there's a beach there.

Colwyn Bay has a beach also, and it's quite nice there too, but Llandudno is more of a resort I think, I always think of Colwyn Bay as more a town with a beach.

    We want it busy.

Is there much shops and arcades in Llandudno do you know? I couldn't seem to find any when I searched for it. We recently went to southport and the kids enjoyed the pleasure land, shops etc.

I'm thinking Llandudno may be a little disappointing for them? I have never been so maybe I am wrong.. ?

The shops in Llandudno are further back from the beachfront, the shopping area is away from the prom and beach. There is an arcade on the pier, and there is usually a funfair in the summer months, but I don't know if it is there or not. I would say Llandudno is maybe for couples or families with younger children. If you want something a bit livelier then Rhyl might be more for you.

Rhyl has lots of arcades with slot machines and bingo etc and kiosks all along the front selling rock donuts. fish and chips etc. There used to be loads to choose from. They also have a Sealife Centre. I think the funfair closed a good few years ago, I'm not sure if anything has replaced it.

I would say Llandudno is maybe for older people or families with younger children. If you want something a bit livelier then Rhyl might be more for you.

Llandudno is a super place. Mostyn Estates need a big pat on the back for keeping it so....

Once you get on the A55 don't stop until you get to Junction 20, and drive in to Llandudno via Penrhyn Bay and down on to the seafront at Little Orme. The town and the Great Orme are at the other end, but you'll soon see that.

Conwy is also a pretty place, but can get congested. A drive up the Conwy Valley to Betws-y-Coed is a lovely drive [except for the driver].

Colwyn Bay and Rhyl are depressing in contast to Llandudno. Prestatyn and Abergele are worth a peek, but only if you have time.

    Hey!

Went to Llandudno on Saturday, and Southport Today.

Llandudno was brilliant, it was certainly busy and enough to do. Beach is very nice.

May try a little further next weekend and go to Skegness :).
