Finding account numbers?

Options
Any suggestions on this?

All of the cards that I think may have had PPI added were closed a very long time ago, and I've no paperwork detailing the account numbers.

SAR the relevant companies - £10 each.

Write to anyone you had an account with enclosing a £10 payment and see what you get back - beyond 6 years they may have deleted records in line with the DPA

Do remember also with a CC you would only pay PPI if you had a balance each month rather than paying it off in full. Also PPI itself isn't necessarily a bad thing only if it was miss-sold

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

How long ago exactly ? If this is historical finance then you have very little hope of recovering anything unless you have comprehensive documentary evidence (statements etc) from your own archive.

In the first instance you should approach the Banks concerned and simply ask if you had PPI. If they say they have no records going back that far, then it's up to you whether you then want to pay for SAR letters.

In most cases you dont need the account number. Most will be able to find you from name, date of birth and address history. It is only the very old ones that may have data archived under account numbers where you need them.
