Vanilla Visa Gift Cards - WARNING

Hope this is the right Forum.
I know that the following tale of woe is MY FAULT, but I thought it worth giving out a warning as it is so easily missed.
In Feb 2015 (yes over a year ago) I was given 2 Vanilla Visa Gift Cards each worth £25. I did try to use them but they were not accepted in the shop I tried (Argos). Oh well, I thought, never mind, the expiry date is 07/19 so plenty of time.
SO this week, (July 16) I decided to try again. Still not accepted so this time I went onto their website to check it out. Imagine my horror to find out that my 2 cards are now worth £3 each!
It appears that after 7 months, the cards have a £2 monthly "maintenance charge" deducted, which has merrily eaten away at the balance.
Yes, it does say so on the card packaging, so I cannot complain, (except to beat myself up) but how many of us do not use Gift Vouchers straight away? and how many of us do not read all the small print? SO, for all those like me - be warned and spend straight away. I still have not resolved the non-acceptance issue by the way.:(:(
