Understanding dates on title deeds

I am hoping someone can help me understand this.
In July 2014 my dad health was failing and he wanted to transfer the title deeds to his house to me so contacted a lawyer. The lawyer completed all the paperwork but my dad got a bit nervous about it and asked the lawyer to hold off. The in July 2015 my dad asked the lawyer to go ahead again.
The title deeds have 2 dates on it date of entry July 2014 and date registered September 2015.
The problem has arisen because my dad passed away last month and when I contacted council tax to let them know they sent me bills from July 2014 saying that I was responsible for the house from then. I sent them a copy of the deeds thinking that the registered date was the date they would use.
I need to know what date is the correct one. If anyone has any information they can share I would be very grateful.
Thank you

Did your father stop paying the council tax in July 2014 or are they trying to get two lots of payment for the same period?0 -
I'm assuming property is in Scotland? The date of entry is when ownership passed to you.
But if the property was only occupied by your dad then he remained liable for council tax.

My dad paid all the council tax but they are saying he was not entitled to his rebate during that period and they sent me bills to pay it back. Plus they told me on the phone that my dad owed them £58 and they have added that to my bill as well!! No explanation of what he owed it or why I have to pay. I was getting really angry on the phone and decided to end the call and continue this in writing.0

Do they think that you were living at the house during this time?
It's worth putting everything in writing. Keep it simple and clear so that each point has to be answered by them.0 -
Who is responsible for the house is largely irrelevant, it's the occupier who pays the council tax. I suspect Mojisola is right and that the council think you were also an occupier, so things like sole occupancy discount that your dad had no longer applied. I think you will need to provide evidence that you were not living there during the relevant period, and the best way to do this is to show bills in your name, particularly council tax, at another address.0
